Omelet recipes make a quick, tasty dinner – our chefs pick the ingredients and deliver them to your door.
An omelet is the quickest way to make a meal out of eggs, and it adapts to whatever is in the fridge. The basic ratio is three eggs and 50 ml of milk or cream per portion.
The most popular omelets are the oven-baked ham and cheese omelet, the feta omelet and the filled pan omelet. An oven omelet takes about 20–30 minutes at 175–200 °C, depending on the size of the dish; it is ready when the centre no longer wobbles like liquid.
For an oven omelet, whisk together eggs, milk, salt and pepper, and spread the fillings – ham, cheese, bell pepper, spinach – in the dish before pouring in the egg mixture. A pan omelet is folded in half as soon as the surface has just set, which keeps it juicy.
The most common mistake is too high a heat: the omelet dries out and turns rubbery. Cook it over gentle heat and take it off the pan slightly before the surface looks fully set, as the residual heat finishes it. Watery fillings such as tomato or squash are best sautéed separately first.
An omelet works for breakfast, dinner or a packed lunch, and it is a good way to use up leftover vegetables. In Ruokaboksi's recipes the ingredients arrive pre-measured at your door, so quick weeknight meals come together without a separate trip to the shop.
